Catchment and admission arrangements from September 2019 onwards for Leigh area

A two-phased consultation into school catchment and admission arrangements for nine schools in the Leigh area is taking place, and we are now asking for your views.

This phase (listening and engagement) will run into the September term, to be followed by a formal public consultation on one option (as required by legislation) that will take place for a 6 week period between October 2017 and 31st January 2018. The new arrangements will be brought into place for reception pupils starting in September 2019.

There are two models that the council currently wants your feedback on which include catchment area changes, along with changes to oversubscription criteria which prioritises admissions to schools, including prioritising all siblings before pupils that live in the proposed catchment or priority area.

The consultation is necessary because evidence and data shows that births are likely to overtake catchment places in Chalkwell Hall schools, Leigh North Street and West Leigh schools. Without any change, a considerable number of children living within the current catchment areas are unlikely to have a reasonable expectation of admission to their catchment school.
